AUSTIN, TEXAS (Travis County). Austin, the
capital of Texas, county seat of Travis County, and home of the University
of Texas at Austin, is located in central Travis County on the Colorado
River and Interstate Highway 35. Situated at 30°16' north latitude and
97°45' west longitude, it is at the eastern edge of the Hill Country and the
Edwards Plateau. The city was established by the three-year-old Republic of
Texas in 1839 to serve as its permanent capital, and named in honor of the
founder of Anglo-American Texas, Stephen F. Austin.

The Adams House |
Adams
House is located in historic and central Hyde Park. It was built in 1911
for Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gesswein as a one-story, L-shaped bungalow with
wraparound porches on the east and south sides. The House was purchased
by Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Adams in 1922 and was elevated to a two-story
colonial revival home in 1931. Adams House was recently renovated by
historic preservation architect Gregory Free.

elegant three-story home built in 1909 in Hyde Park, a national register
historical district located two miles from downtown Austin, Texas and 1
mile from the University of Texas at Austin. The house was named
for Bettie Hamilton Woodburn, who bought the house with her husband in
1924. She was the daughter and speechwriter of Andrew Jackson Hamilton,
a provisional governor of Texas and the personal friend of Abraham
Lincoln.
